Turmeric Octopus

Octopus is marinated with turmeric and garlic and then deep fried into a crispy delight that makes a delicious entrée, side dish or finger food.


  1. 1.5 kg octopus
  2. 4 tablespoons turmeric
  3. 250 grams self raising flour
  4. 350 grams all purpose flour
  5. 2 tablespoon crushed garlic
  6. Salt
  7. Pepper
  8. Oil for frying


  1. Clean the octopus and remove the ink bag
  2. Rub the octopus with some flour and wash thoroughly
  3. Spread the octopus on a large surface and using a kitchen hammer carefully strike the octopus
  4. Cut the octopus into 5 cm strips and marinate them with crushed garlic, 1 1/2 tablespoon turmeric, salt and pepper and allow to rest for 30 minutes
  5. In a large bowl make a batter by combining the self raising flour, all purpose flour , the remaining 1 1/2 tablespoon of turmeric and a pinch of salt
  6. Dip the octopus one by one into the batter and pour directly in the hot oil
  7. Fry on both sides on a medium heat
  8. Serve hot
