Puri
An unleavened deep fried Indian bread made with a combination of whole wheat and white flour that is enjoyed hot and crispy, especially at weddings.
Ingredients
- 250 gram white flour
- 250 grams wheat flour
- 2 tablespoon of vegetable oil
- 200 ml water
- Vegetable oil for frying
- 1 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Mix the white and wheat flour with the half a cup of vegetable oil
- Add some water gradually and work the mixture until it turns to a a soft dough
- Wrap the dough in a damp kitchen towel and allow to rest for 30 minutes
- Knead the dough one last time and make small balls
- With the palm of your hand press each ball slowly
- Flatten each dough ball with a rolling pin (about 0.25 cm thick)
- In a flat pan, heat oil on medium heat for deep frying
- Place each puri into pan and allow to cook one at a time
- Move puri in oil and as soon as puri expands, turn over and immediately remove from pan
- Drain on a kitchen paper to absorb excess oil
