Fish Kichri

Basmati rice and fried fish are combined with a sauce made up of tomatoes, onion, ginger, garlic and a host of other spices to make this aromatic dish.


  1. 1kg Fish fillet, cut into cubes
  2. 2 1/2 cups of basmati rice, cooked
  3. 1 tablespoon cumin powder
  4. 1/4 teaspoon cardamon powder
  5. 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon powder
  6. 1/4 teaspoon clove powder
  7. 2 tomatoes cut into cubes
  8. 4 garlic gloves
  9. A small piece of ginger
  10. 1 small onion
  11. 2 large onion , sliced
  12. 4 boiled eggs, sliced into round shape
  13. 2 tablespoon chopped coriander leaves
  14. 2 tablespoon chopped mint leaves
  15. Oil
  16. Salt
  17. Water


  1. Combine the small onion, gloves of garlic and ginger and grind to a fine paste
  2. Fry the sliced onions until golden brown and reserve
  3. In the same oil fry the fish cubes, allow to cool and flake into small pieces
  4. In a large skillet heat 2 tablespoon oil
  5. Add the tomatoes, onion garlic and ginger paste and stir well
  6. Add the cumin powder, cinnamon, cardamon and cloves powder
  7. Stir well and add some water if required
  8. Add the fish flakes and season with salt
  9. Gradually add the cooked rice and stir well
  10. Adjust the seasoning if required
  11. Turn off the heat and garnish with chopped coriander and mint leaves and sliced boiled eggs
